PROJECTS

Da Street Shop Small Campaign

During the second lockdown, which took place in 2021, I set myself a project to promote shopping small and supporting local businesses.  I also wanted to boost the morale of the local shops after such a hard year.  I decided to illustrate every local shop, hospitality and beauty shop front on 'Da Street' (Lerwick's Commercial Street).  Even though I couldn't include every business (such as the larger multiples, charity shops and businesses without obvious shop fronts) I received a lot of amazing feedback from shop owners and a general positive response.  I then decided to gift every illustration to the shop owners.  The final piece was an A3 art print including every illustration.  This was available to buy on a pre-order basis and was my most successful product launch to date.

Between Islands Resource Pack

Available here
Commissioned to do some illustrations for a children's resource pack, educating kids about the Scottish islands of Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles.  The pack includes activities and easy to understand information about the culture, landscape, wildlife and folklore of the islands.  The watercolour illustrations were done by myself as well as the colouring pages at the end.  The resource pack is available online for free and will be produced in a physical format to be given to primary schools across the islands.

Brand Mckenzie Wallpaper

For a couple of years I have worked with a wallpaper company called Brand Mckenzie to create a couple of designs for their Art Deco and Carnival ranges. The briefs were really fun and allowed me to draw subjects I wouldn't normally draw for Variorum. These are available on their website and from stockists now.

Unst Wallpaper Commission

One of my favourite projects to date! I was kindly asked to create wallpaper for a set of self catering cottages up on the isle of Unst in Shetland.  I was given the chance to stay in one of the cottages while I gathered research and got a sense of the place.  I created the repeat pattern with ink pens, and adding colour digitally, making sure to keep the bright splashes of yellow to make key elements stand out.

Intersport (Lerwick)

I was asked to create the logo and first designs of a tourism aimed line of products for the Intersport shop in Lerwick, Shetland.  The brand, named Njuggle (a water horse myth of the islands), wanted graphic, contrasting designs with a touch of the Celtic and Viking history the islands is known for.  I created these designs that are now on mugs, coasters and clothing such as t-shirts and hoodies.
